Fountain’s second BAMS medal is described by the artist as ‘a metaphor of two states of womanhood. The gold chord is the life-chord of a woman: that personal force which constitutes her individuality. The gap filled with clouds is the door to the outside world, through which spiritual inspiration goes out and comes in. The Muse is skipping and is open to the outside world. The mother’s chord is entangled in the baby; her access to the outside world is more physical – she is the earth-mother’.
