BOOKING NOW CLOSED

Farnham, Surrey

8th -10th May 2026

Join BAMS for a non-residential conference based in quaint town of Farnham in Surrey, a self-styled Craft Town. Participants will book their own accommodation and travel. The conference is to be centred around The New Ashgate Gallery and The Bush Hotel.

Farnham is an attractive and historic market town in Surrey, about an hour by train from London. It is known for its charming buildings, Georgian Streets, and for its rich craft heritage.

The weekend’s events will officially begin with an evening reception and Private View of the BAMS Student Medal Project entries which are to be displayed at the splendid New Ashgate Gallery. Included in the exhibition will be medals by recent BAMS New Medallists which will be for sale.

For delegates arriving early in Farnham, there is also the chance to have a Friday afternoon guided tour of the Crafts Study Centre of the University of the Creative Arts with Greta Bertram, curator of collections.  Delegates wishing to attend this free optional excursion should email [email protected]

The weekend’s varied lecture programme is to include talks by the following:

  • Juan Castro-Varón, artist. His Stet Fortuna Domus medal was recently issued by BAMS.
  • Marianne Walker, Art Collection Curator of The Kennel Club Art Gallery in London, who will introduce us to the gallery’s medal collection.
  • Carsten Theumer, one of the foremost German medallists working in a country known for its strong medallic tradition. For many years he has taught medal work in Halle, resulting in a whole generation of medallists emerging from that school. Carsten has exhibited his work internationally, most recently at the FIDEM Congress in Munich.

The society’s AGM is to be held as part of the weekend.

The popular BAMS workshop on the Sunday will be led by the current BAMS New Medallist, Lonny Chauhan.   It promises to be a fun and lively session aimed at all abilities. Our theme this year will be portrait medals, guided by Lonny’s considerable experience with portraiture.

The delegate fee is £210 per person which includes all events, receptions, lunches and dinners.  Delegates should find their own accommodation.*
